Eugene "Gene" Belcher is the middle child of the Belcher family, being 11 years old. Gene wants to be a musician and loves playing his keyboard. He has a close relationship with his siblings Louise and Tina.

Personality

Gene has a very vulgar sense of humour, as most of his jokes are inappropriate. He likes annoying his family with his keyboard and megaphone.

Whilst Gene is usually not the most mature person, in Lil Hard Dad he convinces Bob to stop an argument about a broken toy helicopter.

Gene is very unathletic, but does play baseball (not well) in The Unnatural. Gene also becomes a cheerleader in Gene It On and the team makes it into a competition. Gene would do a lot to get out of doing sports, in Boyz 4 Now Gene joins a tablescaping competition to get out of joining a sports club.

Gene has a very short attention span, he will quit new hobbies without trying (Oh Row You Didn't). Gene can do a lot if he puts his mind to it though, like in Topsy, Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl and The Quirkducers.

In the episode Itty Bitty Ditty Committee, it reveals that Gene only knows two keys on his keyboard. But as the show goes on, Gene gets better at his keyboard, and even learns how to play the guitar (The Cook, the Steve, the Gayle & Her Lover) and can play the tambourine (Sexy Dance Fighting).

Gene is easily distracted and Linda has said that he's the "least responsible" out of the kids.

Gene, like Bob, has special connections to objects. He befriends a toilet in O.T. The Outside Toilet and in Mutiny on the Windbreaker he develops feelings for a puppet manatee. Linda has also mentioned him talking to his stuffed animals (Glued, Where's My Bob?). Gene also has his imaginary friend, Ken, an albino in his twenties.

Gene also loves food, and Louise says that he once licked a slug for just a bite of a granola bar (It Snakes a Village).

Story/Life

Gene is the middle child of the family. He's always loved music, and this may have started when he got a Casio SK-5 keyboard on Christmas. His dream is to be a professional musician.

Relationships

Bob Belcher

Whilst Bob and Gene love each over, they find it hard to bond because they don't have much in common. However, they bonded by watching Banjo (Spaghetti Western and Meatballs).

Bob tells Gene off for his constant inappropriate jokes, but he never listens. Gene is allowed to say some words once a year though.

Gene was the only member of the family who wanted to go with Bob to a concert, and when Gene was uncomfortable there Bob left the show to make him happy (The Laser-inth). Bob gets excited to to cook Thanksgiving dinner because Gene loves them (Diarrhea of a Poopy Kid).

Linda Belcher

Gene has a very close relationship with Linda and they have a lot in common, like their love for performance. In The Hurt Soccer, when Bob, Tina and Louise leave the restaurant Gene and Linda start their dream of having a piano bar called "Gene and Linda's Show Tunes and Mouth Foods"

They both love food, and they both share each other's meals (Every Which Way but Goose and Worms of In-Rear-ment). They both used to go to Devendorf's Bakery to eat samples until Linda got banned (Eat, Spray, Linda). They both also eat cat food (There's No Business Like Mr. Business Business)

Tina Belcher

Gene and his older sister, Tina, are often manipulated by Louise. In Slumber Party they're both used as human shields by Louise and Jessica. They sometimes team together to stop Louise's schemes, like in Ambergris. Gene will usually team up with Louise though, as in Bad Tina he helped Louise manipulate her, Gene hid with Louise in Tina's closet to catch her bringing boys over when she wasn't meant to and found out she got a temporary tattoo and use the two things to blackmail her.

Gene is supportive of Tina, in Hamburger Dinner Theater he helps her overcome her stage fright.

Louise Belcher

Louise is Gene's little sister, but as said in Large Brother, Where Fart Thou? he doesn't do traditional big brother stuff. Louise is braver than Gene, and he often does what she says.

Gene is willing to do a lot of what Louise says, in Art Crawl he would have sut his ear off like Louise said she would if it wasn't for Bob intervening. The only times he won't listen to Louise is when he's scared. In It Snakes a Village, it took him a while to gather the courage to save his siblings.

Gene becomes more mischievous under Louise's influence, in Bad Tina he helped Louise manipulate Tina, he hid with Louise in Tina's closet to catch her bringing boys over when she wasn't meant to and found out she got a temporary tattoo and use the two things to blackmail her. Without Louise being around he's a lot more forgiving though, as shown in Midday Run.

Courtney Wheeler

In The Unbearable Like-Likeness of Gene, Gene agrees to date Courtney Wheeler, who he thinks is incredibly annoying. Right when he managed to work up the courage to break up with her, he finds out her dad makes jingles and could help him get a career in music, so he doesn't break up with her. They end up breaking up though, as Gene gets annoyed with her at her birthday party and tells her to "just stop breathing".

In Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl the two have to work together to make a play combining Die Hard and Working Girl.

They do have common interests though, like wanting to entertain people. Courtney and Gene work together as a musical duo in The Gene & Courtney Show. While working together Gene develops genuine feelings for her and they end up kissing. They break up once again though, as their morning announcement show suffers.

Zeke

Gene and Zeke started interacting more from the episode Carpe Museum, where they're paired for the museum trip. Since then, they have had a bit of a friendship, like shown in Stand By Gene.

Alex Papasian

Alex and Gene are in two classes with each over, but first interacted with each other in the episode Cheer Up, Sleepy Gene, where they bond over lack of skill in P.E. Alex then invites Gene to a sleepover. In later episodes Alex becomes Gene's best friend.
